2007 FRA Calendar

jan feb mar apr may jun jul aug sep oct nov dec

Events which have been Registered with and Permitted/Insured through the FRA are identified by '(R)' after the name of the race. Most but not all the races in England have been Permitted/Insured in this way. They will be run in accordance with 'FRA Safety Requirements for Fell Races' and the 'FRA Rules for Competition'

Races which are not identified in this way are included in the Calendar for information only and are not Registered with the FRA. This includes all races held in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The FRA cannot vouch for their Permit or Insurance status and details should be obtained from the organisers if required.

Race categories are as described in the 'FRA Rules for Competition' but please note the following abbreviations:-
Category 'O' — primarily an orienteering type of event but involving fell-running skills in addition.
Category 'MM' — a mountain marathon type of event.

'ER' = experience required.
'LK' = local knowledge an advantage.
'NS' = navigational skills required.
'PM' = course partially marked.

Before competing in any fell race please read the 'FRA Safety Requirements for Fell Races' and the 'FRA Rules for Competition'. The competitor is responsible for ensuring that he/she has the necessary fitness, skills and experience to participate in any of the events. Many events require previous fell running experience and/or map reading and navigational skills as well as a high level of fitness. A good way to get experience and advice is to join a fell running club and participate in their activities. Whatever other running experience you have it is advisable to start with Short events before tackling more demanding Medium and Long category events.
