FRA Navigation Courses 2025

From 2025 FRA Navigation Courses will be available for FRA members only.

Fellrunners who have attended a navigation course in the past are encouraged to practise what they have learned and there are many small, informal navigation events such as:

FRA licensed Orienteering and Mountain Marathon style events which are notated "O" or "MM" in the index of races listed from page 81 of the FRA Handbook and Fixtures Calendar 2024.

Try orienteering and in particular SPUNCH events which can be found on the British Orienteering website www.britishorienteering.org.uk

For further training, the FRA will provide a list of approved providers - TBA

FRA Navigation Courses 2024

An introduction to map reading and navigation on the fells, for those new to fell running or wishing to try races requiring navigational skills.

The course runs from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Indoor theory sessions will cover the basic skills and other relevant topics on Friday evening. Saturday and Sunday consist of practical instruction sessions on the fells. Come prepared for exercises on the fells in any weather! There will be low-key navigation events for you to test your improving skills.

The cost is £100 for FRA members and £120 for non-members, including full board.

Courses are planned for 1st-3rd March 2024 at Kettlewell [NOW FULL] and 20th-22nd September 2024 at Elterwater.
