Junior Home International

This is to confirm that the England U17 (athletes born in 1999 and 2000) trial for the Junior Home International will go ahead as planned on 15 August. Some of you will be aware that Wales have moved their U17 trial to 22 August, the same day as the GB trial (senior and U20) for the World Championships, which incorporates the U20 England and Wales trials for the Junior Home International. The England U17 trial was to be held in conjunction with the Welsh trial but we feel it important to stick to the published date as people will have planned holidays around it. In addition, holding the U17 trial on a separate weekend to the GB trial will allow athletes to contest both trials should they wish to do so (the GB U20 team is open to athletes born in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999).

We will therefore organise a separate England U17 trial on 15 August in the Lake District. We will publish details shortly. There is to be an U20 England, Scotland and Wales training camp in Betws-y-Coed from 23-25 August. Invitations will be sent out in the near future. This means that athletes doing the U20 trial on 22 August will have to find somewhere to stay on the night 22/23 August. Unfortunately the hostel accommodation was unavailable for this night.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. I would be grateful if you could pass on this information to anybody you know for whom it is relevant.

Best wishes, Anne Buckley Chair of Selectors, England Mountain Running

Disciplinary Decisions

1. Mark Davies, Mercia Fell runners – Three Peaks Race.
Following an allegation that the above runner retired from the race and then failed to return to the start and report to the race organiser, as required under the rules, we have decided to impose a ban on him entering races registered by the FRA for 3 months expiring on 15 Aug. 2015. A copy of this decision is being sent to all race organisers.

2. Clive Fitzpatrick aka Clive Gurzhii
This unattached runner is currently serving a ban from entering FRA registered races which was due to expire on 6 June.  Further violations of the rules have been drawn to our attention, including entering Lads Leap and Pendle Fell races under a false name and so potentially hindering the safe organisation of the race. A further ban has been imposed expiring on 13 June 2016.  A copy of this decision is being sent to all race organisers.

FRA Radios

Monitoring runners is a vital aspect of the safe conduct of fell races and so the FRA has long had a set (6) of Motorola radios available for free loan to race organisers.

The FRA has now purchased three further sets (of 6) of a more powerful Motorola model which have much improved radio coverage.

These are available on free loan from Jon Broxap via Pete Bland Sports where they are stored.

Race organisers are urged to make use of this facility.

The FRA is committed to do all it can to ensure safety in fell races and if future demand for radios from race organisers exceeds supply then the FRA will purchase additional sets to safeguard the future of the sport.
