The Dave Parry Winter and Summer Fell Race Series
(North Yorkshire Moors)

The North Yorkshire Moors are a slightly off-the-grid gem of an upland area with a diverse range of terrain stretching from the eastern North Sea coast to the western edge with the Moors' high point, ‘Round Hill’, at 454 metres and Sutton Bank on the south-east corner with glorious views across the Vale of York.

Fell racing on the North Yorkshire Moors and the name Dave Parry are inextricably linked, the winter and summer fell race series, the bedrock of fell racing, being named in his memory.

North East Fell Running Championships

The North East Counties Fell Running Championship is an annual competition open to anybody born or resident within the North East Counties (Northumberland, Durham, Tyne and Wear, Cleveland and North Yorkshire north of Whitby). You will be presumed to be eligible if you have entered any of the races as a member of a North East club (including Esk Valley Fell Club, Loftus and Whitby AC, New Marske Harriers and North York Moors AC).

The format of the championship consists of 7 races of which your best 4 count towards the championship. 52 points are awarded to the first eligible man and woman, 49 to the 2nd, 48 to the 3rd and so on. If any more than 50 finishers in any one category, runners will always receive 1 point. Medals are awarded to the top 3 placed men and women with the highest total of points after the final race.

In addition to the open championship, the North East Hill Running Association (NEHRA) championship takes place with age categories of V40, V50, V60 and V70 for men and women contested for the same races as the open championship. Age categories can only be taken as those entered on the day. Competitors will remain in the same age category and it is the responsibility of competitors to notify the organisers  should they move up an age category during the year. For LV60 and above, and for MV70, a competitors’s best three races will count.

Welsh Fell Racing

WELSH FELL RUNNERS ASSOCIATION

The WFRA is an independent, not for profit organisation, whose aim is to promote and support ‘grass roots’ fell running in Wales. The overwhelming majority of fell races held in Wales are registered with the Association. The WFRA are producing a 2022 calendar and handbook which will be issued early in the New Year.  Please visit the website for details of the North and South Wales Series' and the Welsh Championship.

Also, an exciting development since 2022 is a fresh investment in Junior fellrunning, with a brand new North and South Wales Junior Championship that's been developed, along with an overall Junior Welsh Championship.

We look forward to welcoming fellrunners back to Wales for an exciting year of racing.
