upcoming Wasdale fell race 2024
Thu 11 Jul 2024
Note to all competitors
Please note that on account of the Wasdale being awarded English championship status a full field of 300 is anticipated. So, as there is such a significant proportion of ladies & elderly gents running, there will be 2 starts.
The first start will be 30min early at 10.30hrs & will comprise all of the ladies plus gents M60 & over in a designated 'corral' area.
The ladies will automatically be registered by SportIdent in the earlier start. The elder gents will 'dib' on entry to the 'corral'.
The remainder of the gents up to & including the M55s will be started at 11.00hrs, the normal start time. The first 3 checkpoints will open earlier to cope, but all 4 closing times will remain the same. Because of the congestion anticipated at Whin Rigg, the marshals have requested a single numbered tally drop so they can be confident that everyone has been accounted for.
Therefore the following times & actions are listed:-
Checkpoints Action Opening time Closing time
1st Whin Rigg (dib & tally drop) 10.50 hrs (25min earlier) 12.00 hrs (no change)
Greendale drinks stn. (dib only)
2nd Seatallan (dib only) 11.50 hrs (15min) 13.25 hrs ditto
3rd Pillar (dib only) 12.30 hrs (10min) 14.25 hrs ditto
4th Great Gable (dib only) 13.15 hrs (0min) 15.30 hrs ditto
5th Esk Hause Shelter (dib only) 13.35 hrs -
6th Scafell Pike (dib only) 13.50 hrs -
7th Lingmell Nose Wall (dib only) 14.05 hrs -
8th Finish (dib only)
Also, & also very importantly, Wasdale has become extremely popular to tourism, so car share as much as possible, also allow plenty of time, particularly for those starting at 10.30hrs, to travel from Gosforth to Wasdale Head. There is plenty of space to park in the registration field.
On account of Joss Naylor's passing there will be a tribute before each start & an opportunity for people to say a few words before the prize giving.
Joss's funeral is to be held at St Olaf's church at Wasdale Head on Friday 19th July at 13.00hrs.
Parking will be limited, so if possible use any available public transport or arrive by bike or by running over the passes. Club colours to be worn if possible. There will be a loud speaker relay outside as the church is very small. Donations, if desired, to the Stroke Ward, West Cumberland Hospital.
