FRA is looking for additional Race Liaison Officers to recruit
Fri 4 Jul 2025
The Fell Runners Association licences approximately 500 fell races each year, including six English senior and six junior championship races. As fell runners we are blessed with being able to run and race in the high and beautiful places across England and the Isle of Man from Cornwall to Northumberland and the uplands in between, and east and west.
Fell racing is a simple sport, though a lot of effort goes into making it appear and feel that way and we need your help.
The Race Liaison Officer (RLO) team has two primary functions; to support Race Organisers of local and championship fell races, especially the inexperienced, those new to race organisation or those thinking about organising a fell race and secondly to audit FRA races and ensure race organisers follow the correct procedures and requirements contributing to the safety of volunteers and competitors.
Who are we looking for? someone with a passion for fell running, who is motivated to positively influence the future organisation of fell racing, someone who has good awareness and knowledge of fell racing's requirements and guidelines. It will be an advantage though definitely not essential if you have experience of race organisation, historically or currently, you will be able to gain knowledge and experience to grow into the role.
The FRA has divided England and the Isle of Man in to regions: Northumberland/Durham, Lake District, North Pennines, North York Moors, Yorkshire Dales, Bowland/North West Lancashire, South/West Pennines, Peak District, Shropshire/Welsh Borders, Midlands, South West, South East and the country of the Isle of Man.
I am looking to add to the existing team of RLOs, ideally so there is representation in each region, and to allow multiple RLOs in the areas with the largest proportion of fell races: Lake District, South/West Pennines and the Peak District, and to allow dual RLO attendance at larger and longer races.
The RLO role can be doubled up with competing in an event, if you are interested or would like to find out a bit more it will be great to hear from you and we can have a chat, so please drop me a line at [email protected] .
Best wishes
Clive Thornton

Esk Valley Fell Club (North York Moors)
