The Fell Runners Association is the National Association for fell racing across England and the Isle of Man, we licence between 500 and 550 fell races each year, including six English championship races for seniors and six for juniors, and relays. As fell runners we are blessed with being able to run and race in the high and beautiful places across England and the Isle of Man from Cornwall to Northumberland and the uplands in between.
Fell racing is a simple sport, though a lot of effort goes into making it appear and feel that way, and we need your help.
Race Organisers have two main aims, to ensure their fell races are organised safely and fairly. The Race Liaison Officer team is part of the wider Fell Runners Association that operates as one of its primary functions to provide support to Race Organisers. The RLO's have the day-to-day contact with RO's of our local and championship fell races, offering support and assistance especially to the inexperienced, those new to race organisation or those thinking about organising a fell race. They also audit FRA fell races to ensure RO's follow the correct procedures that contribute to the safety of volunteers and competitors. and fairness for participants. Typically, we aim to assess around 10% or 50 fell races each year from across the calendar and geographically.
Who are we looking for? someone with a passion for fell racing, awareness and knowledge of fell racing's requirements and guidelines will help, it will be an advantage though not essential if you have experience of race organisation, as an organiser or in admin, you will though be able to gain knowledge and experience to grow into the role.
The FRA has divided England and the Isle of Man in to regions: Northumberland/Durham, Lake District, North Pennines, North York Moors, Yorkshire Dales, Bowland/North West Lancashire, South/West Pennines, Peak District, Shropshire/Welsh Borders, Midlands, South West, South East and Isle of Man.
I am looking for RLO's, to add to the existing team, from across the whole FRA geography, happy with multiple RLO's in any of the areas and particularly where the largest proportion of fell races are held: Lake District, South/West Pennines and the Peak District.
